A ship, two photographers, three days to refine your visual talent.RVM Photography On Board is the narrative photography workshop that Rearviewmirror presents to professional and amateur photographers who want to deepen their approach to reportage acquiring new technical and expressive tools to tell stories through pictures.
Photographers Massimo Berruti and Massimo Sciacca will guide students in a trip between sea and land - sailing on Grimaldi's Cruise Rome, on the route Civitavecchia/Barcelona - with theory and practical sessions. Developed in three days, the workshop included lessons on board, field sessions - after landing in Barcelona, students will be sent to produce short reportages in the city following the teachers' directions, shooting at night and during the day to face different light conditions - post-production and critical review of the work.
A slide-show of the work made will end the journey, before the ship will land again in the Civitavecchia port.
The two best pictures taken by students will be published on Rearviewmirror Magazine, having the opportunity to win the five prizes (amount to 10000 euros each) of Mare Nostrum Awards 2010, organized by Grimaldi Mare Nostrum Magazine.
Required equipment:
SLR digital camera + laptop with Photoshop installed
A good knowledge of basic photographic techniques

Massimo Berruti was born in 1979 in Rome, where he currently lives. His professional career began working with the most important Italian and European magazines such as l'Espresso, Internazionale, D la Repubblica delle Donne, Le Monde2 and The Independent. In 2007 he won the Second Prize Reportage in "Contemporary issue" at World Press Photo. Since 2008 he began travelling in central Asia, particulary in Pakistan and Afghanistan, documenting the changing society. In 2009 he won the Young Reporter Award at Visa pour l'Image in Perpignan. He's represented by Agence Vu'.
Massimo Sciacca was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1965. Working as a free-lance photographer, he focus his research on social and political topics: during the in the 90s he documented the war in the former Yugoslavia, the first free elections in Albania, the siege of Mostar and the invasion of Turkish army in the Iraqui territory of Kurdistan. In 1997 he was awarded at the World Press Photo Contestphoto with a picture of the peoples’ rebellion in Albania. In 1999 he went to Kosovo and Serbia to document the latest ethnic conflicts in the Balcans. This photo-story was awarded with the Italian Fuji prize for photojournalism. In 2008 he joined Prospekt Photographers Agency. He is currently based in Milan.

Una nave, due fotografi, tre giorni per affinare il proprio talento visivo. RVM Photography On Board è il workshop di fotografia narrativa che Rearviewmirror
propone, insieme a Grimaldi Lines ad appassionati e professionisti che vogliono
approfondire il proprio approccio al reportage acquisendo nuovi strumenti, tecnici e
espressivi, per raccontare attraverso le immagini.
I fotografi Massimo Sciacca e Massimo Berruti guideranno i fotonauti in un viaggio tra il mare e la terra - a bordo della M/n Cruise Roma di Grimaldi Lines, sulla rotta Civitavecchia/Barcellona - dividendo il tempo tra insegnamento teorico e lavoro pratico.
Articolato in tre giorni, il workshop si svilupperà tra lezioni a bordo, sessioni sul campo - all'approdo della nave, gli allievi saranno inviati a Barcellona per realizzare dei brevi reportage seguendo le indicazioni degli insegnanti, scattando sia di sera che di giorno per confrontarsi con le diverse condizioni di luce - postproduzione e revisione critica dei lavori svolti. Uno slide-show delle immagini realizzate concluderà il viaggio, prima che la nave entri nuovamente in porto.
Le due migliori fotografie scattate dagli allievi verranno pubblicate su Rearviewmirror Magazine e avranno la possibilità di concorrere al premio giornalistico internazionale Mare Nostrum Awards 2010, indetto dalla rivista Grimaldi Magazine Mare Nostrum, che mette in palio cinque premi da 10mila euro l'uno.

Massimo Berruti è nato nel 1979 a Roma, dove attualmente vive. La sua carriera
professionale si consolida lavorando con i più importanti giornali italiani ed esteri, come l'Espresso, D La Repubblica delle Donne, Io Donna, Vanity Fair, Wall Street Journal e Paris Mach. Dal 2008 viaggia e lavora prevalentemente in Afghanistan e Pakistan, documentando l'evoluzione sociale e politica dei due paesi. Tra i numerosi premi ricevuti, il Second Prize Reportage "Contemporary issue" al World Press Photo 2007 e il Young Reporter Award al Visa pour l'Image di Perpignan 2009. E' rappresentato dall'agenzia Vu'.

Nel 1999 riceve il premio Fuji Italia per il fotogiornalismo e il premio Linea d’ombra. Dal 2008 è nello staff di Prospekt Photographers. Vive e lavora a Milano.
